You are at the Palacio de las Dueñas, one of Sevilla's most intimate and luminous corners. Building began in the late 15th century, and through centuries of marriages and inheritances it passed into the hands of the House of Alba, which still owns it. The poet Antonio Machado was born here in 1875, the son of the palace administrator. His verses returned to these lemon trees, that clear afternoon, the patio where the lemon ripens. As you enter, take your time in the Main Courtyard: lobed arches, marble columns, old tiles and plants that grow as in a lived-in house. Because that is Dueñas: not a cold museum but the home of a family that has layered taste, travel and memory over centuries. You will see portraits, shawls, Triana ceramics, Holy Week mementoes, fans, bullfighting posters, gifts from kings. The late Duchess of Alba turned the palace into a deeply personal place, mixing aristocracy and flamenco. Don't skip the garden: orange trees, jasmines, a small chapel, benches for a silent pause. Visitor tip: come early, when low light slips across the tiles. Take your time; half an hour is short. And if you have ever read a poem by Machado, this is the place to read it again.
